Pressure at the Open, Discipline in the Positioning

Yesterday cooled momentum, today's macro prints will decide whether this is a dip-buy setup or a deeper reset.

Pressure at the Open, Discipline in the Positioning

TL;DR

Yesterday was a risk reset, not a breakdown: the major indexes slipped, but there was no broad liquidation signal across our models. This morning, futures are still lower into the open as traders wait on inflation and growth data. THOR is staying disciplined — still broadly invested, but with clear risk-off sleeves already in place where the data is weakest.

Market Pulse

Futures as of 7:25 AM ET

S&P 500 futures: 6,892 -28 (-0.41%)

Nasdaq 100 futures: 24,984.5 -96.5 (-0.39%)

Dow futures: 49,236 -295 (-0.60%)

Rates & Commodities: 10-Year Treasury proxy 97.60 | Gold proxy 477.48 | Oil proxy 79.77

What matters today: Core PCE at 8:30 ET, Chicago PMI at 9:45 ET, and final consumer sentiment at 10:00 ET. Those three prints will likely decide whether this is a weak open that gets bought or a weak open that accelerates.

The THOR View

Our read is straightforward: the tape is fragile, but not broken. Positioning data still supports meaningful risk exposure, and that is why we are not forcing a defensive overhaul after one soft premarket print.

At the same time, this is not an “ignore the macro” morning. If inflation surprises hot, risk assets can reprice quickly. If inflation cools while growth holds, this market can stabilize fast. THOR is positioned to participate if upside resumes, while already carrying defined risk-off exposure in weaker segments if downside extends.

This is exactly where signal discipline matters most: avoid emotional toggling, let confirmed regime shifts drive allocation changes, and keep capital aligned with what the data is actually saying.

One Thing to Watch

If the 8:30 ET inflation print comes in cooler than expected, watch for quick relief in broad equity exposure. If it comes in hot, expect pressure to concentrate in higher-duration growth and a tighter risk posture into the close.
